The WASSERMANN PERFORMANCE CENTER
Developing technology. Rethinking manufacturing.

With the WASSERMANN Performance Center, we are creating an environment in which high-precision manufacturing, automation and process reliability are consistently combined.

The aim is not only to develop new technologies, but also to test them under real production conditions, optimize them and make them tangible.

The focus is on building a state-of-the-art production facility – from the clean room environment and high-performance machining technologies to innovative automation solutions for workpieces and tools. Every investment follows a clear objective: maximum efficiency, reproducible quality and maximum scalability.

The Performance Center is therefore not just a production area, but also a development, demonstration and decision-making space – for us and for our customers.

Overview of the development steps

High-tech component cleaning Cleanliness as a critical success factor

At the WASSERMANN Performance Center, component cleaning is not a downstream process, but an integral part of holistic high-tech production.

By setting up a new, high-performance cleaning infrastructure, we are creating the conditions for the highest standards of cleanliness, process reliability and reproducibility. Component cleaning is consistently designed to meet the needs of demanding industries – in particular the semiconductor industry and other high-tech applications with strict cleanliness and documentation requirements.

We use fully automated systems for cleaning small parts to the highest level of cleanliness as well as high-performance cleaning systems for large-format components. All processes are designed for reproducible results, validatable parameters and reliable integration into downstream production, assembly and cleanroom processes. Commissioning of the new cleaning technology is planned for Q1 2026.

The close integration of measurement technology, quality assurance and cleanroom-compatible packaging creates a continuous cleaning process – from the initial cleaning to the tested, documented and protected handover of the components.

This makes component cleaning a reliable basis for reliable production, sensitive assembly processes and the highest product quality.

A world first in tool automation High-density tool storage for automated production environments

In addition to automation on the workpiece side, the automation of cutting tools is also a key lever for efficient, highly automated production processes.

The development of TOOL-L is a world first in the field of tool provision. The high-density tool storage system is designed as a compact tool terminal and enables maximum packing density with minimum space requirements – ideal for automated production environments with high demands on availability and cost-effectiveness.

The linear design ensures a particularly small footprint and allows space-saving storage and provision of a large number of cutting tools. TOOL-L has been specifically developed for short set-up times, high process stability and easy integration into existing production and automation concepts.

TOOL-L is currently in the development phase. The prototype has already been presented at a trade fair; the next step is installation and commissioning at the WASSERMANN Performance Center. This will create a real development and demonstration environment in which customers will be able to experience tool automation live in production use in the future.

The development is being carried out as part of the MODUS research and development project, co-financed by the Hessian ERDF. The aim is to further develop a modular, multifunctional intralogistics system that increases productivity, reduces energy consumption and saves valuable production space.

With TOOL-L, the Performance Center becomes a testing ground for a new generation of tool automation – practical, scalable and future-oriented.

Automation as the next development step Workpiece automation for heavy components and scalable processes

By integrating automation on the workpiece side, we are specifically expanding the Performance Center in the direction of future viability and process stability.

The WORK-L 5000 is a proprietary automation solution from the WASSERMANN AUTOMATION division. The workpiece automation is characterized by a linear, particularly space-saving design and enables the safe handling of workpieces weighing up to 5,000 kg.

The solution is optimally designed for machining large and heavy components and forms the basis for automated production processes with high availability. The combination of a high-performance milling center and workpiece-side automation reduces set-up times, stabilizes throughput times and makes processes sustainably economical.

The workpiece automation system is being developed as part of the MODUS research and development project, co-financed by the Hessian ERDF. The aim is a modular, multifunctional intralogistics system that increases productivity, reduces energy consumption and makes efficient use of production space.

Key components are being developed further in the project and tested under real production conditions. The Wassermann Performance Center serves as a practical development and validation environment for industrial use.

As a prototype, WORK-L 5000 is being used directly in our own production facility for the first time. The Performance Center is therefore also a real-life operating environment: interested customers have the opportunity to view the automation solution on site and experience its use live during the ongoing production process.

Expansion of milling capacities New DMC 160 U 5-axis milling center for complex large components

The next milestone on the road to ultra-modern production is the targeted expansion of our milling capacities.

With the installation of a new DMC 160 U 5-axis milling center, we are creating the basis for the precise complete machining of large, complex workpieces. The machine expands our possibilities, particularly where high component weights, large dimensions and demanding geometries come together.

The milling center is deliberately designed so that it can be optimally combined with downstream automation solutions. Large traverse paths, high load capacities and a stable machine structure enable economical machining even with heavy components and form the technical basis for future process automation.

The new milling center is therefore not just an expansion of the machine park, but a central component for scalable, future-proof production processes at the Wassermann Performance Center.

Basis for the highest quality requirements Installation of a clean room as the starting point of the Performance Center

The development of state-of-the-art production begins with controlled conditions and clearly defined quality standards.

In order to meet the increasing requirements of demanding industries, we have deliberately started to install a clean room as part of the Wassermann Performance Center (WPC) . The clean room forms the basis for precise, reproducible processes and enables us to carry out sensitive production and assembly tasks under precisely controlled environmental conditions.

With cleanroom classes in accordance with ISO 5, ISO 6 and ISO 7, we create the conditions for applications in which cleanliness, process reliability and documentation are crucial. The cleanroom infrastructure is not conceived as an isolated unit, but as an integral part of future-oriented production – closely interlinked with assembly, testing and quality assurance.

Step by step, a production environment is being created that already meets the technological requirements of tomorrow.
