TOOL-L central storage system makes automated production even more efficient

Visitors to EMO 2025 in Hanover can get to know a new form of space efficiency: WASSERMANN TECHNOLOGIE GmbH is presenting its innovative development towards a high-density storage system for automated production environments. The TOOL-L central tool storage system stores up to 5,000 cutting tools in the smallest of spaces and can be expanded as required thanks to its flexible modular design.

Space is a scarce and therefore valuable resource. Automated and space-saving solutions are becoming increasingly important, especially in the manufacturing industry. WASSERMANN TECHNOLOGIE meets this demand with the innovative TOOL-L tool storage system.

The highly compact storage system with sliding shelves, which is currently also the subject of a development project at WASSERMANN TECHNOLOGIE, only takes up 9 m² of store floor space in its basic version. The system can store up to 1,200 tools and make them quickly available in an automated production infrastructure.

Innovative high-density storage system with enormous capacities

The central magazine from WASSERMANN TECHNOLOGIE was designed to store all common tool holders. These include HSK, SK, BT or PSC as well as the combination of different interfaces. The robust design of the TOOL-L currently allows tool weights of up to 35 kg.

The combined storage of different tool holders, lengths and diameters gives the system and the production process particular flexibility – which is even increased as part of current developments. Thanks to its ergonomic design, the storage system also enables particularly fast loading and unloading. With these features, the system is predestined for connection to tool presetters, autonomous transport systems and other peripherals. In addition, tool data can be checked using various technologies such as RFID or DMC to optionally secure the storage process.

Future-oriented central warehouse thanks to modular concept

The requirements in the industry in general as well as specifically in individual manufacturing companies are very dynamic. Significantly higher capacities can quickly be required within short periods of time. WASSERMANN TECHNOLOGIE knows these challenges – and develops the innovative central magazine specifically in modular design.

The sliding shelf principle of the TOOL-L can be expanded quickly and easily in stages. The basic version with a footprint of around 9 m² can store more than 2,000 tools on just under 16 m² by adding just one additional cassette. When extended to a total of four cassettes, it is already possible to store over 5,000 tools.

Scalable practicability: TOOL-L meets individual requirements

The high-density storage system adapts to its environment depending on the infrastructure, peripherals and degree of automation, as well as the size of the company and production volume. In addition to flexible scalability in the long term, WASSERMANN offers numerous optional features such as a blow-out station or cone cleaning.

Depending on requirements, the TOOL-L system can form the central tool store, act as an additional magazine on machine tools or ensure the interlinking of several machine tools. WASSERMANN supplies the system with a corresponding supply module, robot arm, traversing axis and suitable grippers to ensure fast operational readiness and direct access by means of an independent positioning unit.

WASSERMANN TECHNOLOGIE GmbH is presenting its innovative tool storage system live for the first time at EMO 2025 in Hanover. The motto “Innovate Manufacturing” for the 50th anniversary of the trade fair hits the nail on the head with the future-proof high-density storage system for automated production environments: TOOL-L makes a significant contribution to digitalization, automation and the efficient use of resources.
